Consider your use: Heavy traffic or low traffic? This will impact whether you choose vinyl plank flooring, hardwood or carpet.
Know your style: Despite its popularity, many people still prefer the warmth and comfort of carpet to hardwood floors. If you are using it in a generally low-traffic area and only wear slippers or socks in your home, carpet could work. However, hardwood with area rugs gives you the best of both worlds.
Consider the rest of the room: In historic homes such as brownstones or modern condos, it’s rare to see carpet, as hardwood floors generally suit the ambiance and aesthetic of the rest of the room. Homes near water, such as lake houses, generally stay away from carpet as well.
Know your budget: A big consideration. Today’s vinyl plank flooring costs a fraction of the price of hardwood, is waterproof, looks great and is easy to replace.
